This has to be one of the best ever Myott designs from an Art Deco point of view. This Trumpet Jug is extremely rare – I have only seen one other example and know about one other in a different size. It is the medium of the three sizes that these jugs were produced in, standing 20.5cm (8 inches) tall. The pattern is the iconic Art Deco ‘Sunrise’, ‘Sunray’ or ‘Sunburst’, which was used in a number of Clarice Cliff designs. The rising Sun is depicted in bold orange and yellow rising up over an Art Deco landscape of blue and yellow hollyhocks with silhouetted trees, hills and birds. The handle is orange and black and the base yellow, black and green.
The Trumpet Jug is marked with the full Myott gold crown and is also marked with the B.A.G. Co. Ltd. backstamp which gives the piece extra prominence. Other marks to the base include HAND PAINTED, MADE IN ENGLAND in a russet colour, pattern number 9730, a registration number: REGD.No. 779152 dating to 1932 and also a small black painter’s mark in an ‘o’ form. The jug is in very good condition but does have light grey staing to some areas where there is crazing. This does not detract fromn the piece as it is such a strong Art Deco pattern.
This is a catalogue item and as such is not for sale.
